Description
PleurX Drainage System Overview
CareFusion PleurX Drainage System provides a safe and effective way to drain fluid buildup from pleural effusions or malignant ascites from home. The PleurX drainage system uses continuous in-line aerosol therapy to relieve the pressure and discomfort of fluid buildup without a doctor’s visit. The CareFusion PleurX Drainage System combines a drainage catheter that is inserted directly into the chest pleural effusion or malignant ascites in the abdomen. The catheter base is then securely connected to an active vacuum bottle to collect fluid. A specialized safety valve prevents air from passing through the drainage line. The catheter features a polyester cuff that promotes healthy tissue re-growth and reduces the risk of infection while holding the catheter securely in place. The collection time is approximately 15 minutes.
This device can also be used in place of a chest tube to deliver Talc or Bleomycin for chemical Pleurodesis procedures.
