Description

The Drive Medical Universal Walker Wheels and Rear Glides are armed to convert a folded walker into a wheeled walker. The rubber wheels permit most walkers to roll freely over irregular surfaces while the rear glide caps with covers facilitate use on any surface. The product accommodates most manufacturers’ walkers with five-inch tubing -- including the Carex Folding Walker. If you like these walker wheels but prefer having a swivel feature, you may also consider the Drive Swivel Lock 5 Inch Walker Wheels.

Easy Assembly

Assembly is easy and only requires the front legs from the existing walker to be removed and then the five-inch walker wheel legs to be inserted into the frame. This is done by holding down the peg located on the walker's leg while pushing on the walker wheel.

Benefits of Using a Wheeled Walker

One advantage of using a wheeled walker is that it allows a person to walk with greater speed. Another advantage is that a wheeled walker is easier to store than a rollator.

    Is a Wheeled Walker Safe?

One disadvantage to the safety of a wheeled walker is that it may be more easily pushed away from the person using it. Another disadvantage is that it is not safe to use a wheeled walker to walk up and down stairs. However, by utilizing the walker wheels’ locking brake, a person can combat these issues.

Is It Acceptable to Put Tennis Balls on a Walker?

Tennis balls have commonly been used on walkers. However, it may not be the best method and could be deemed unsafe, unsanitary and unattractive to some. People sometimes believe they make a walker less stable and pick up and track germs. If a person with a walker likes the aesthetic of tennis balls, then utilizing walker glides – which come in various fun patterns – may serve as a good alternative.
