Product Configuration

  • 1. Connect either end of the connecting tubing to the top of the collection bottle connector, then to the bacteria filter.
  • 2. Connect the patient tubing to the collection bottle at the designated outlet.
  • 3. Before using, please double-check that all connections are secure and free of leaks.

Drive Suction Machine Operation

  • 1. Before using the suction unit, check the specification label on the side to ensure that the voltage and current indicated on the unit correspond to the voltage and current available. Before connecting the unit to a power source, make sure the power switch on the side is in the "Off" position.

  • 2. To start the unit, turn the power switch to the "I" position (on).
  • 3. Turn the vacuum adjust knob to change the vacuum level from 0 to 56 mmHg (clockwise to increase vacuum and counter-clockwise to decrease vacuum). While adjusting the vacuum level, keep an eye on the vacuum gauge. Block the patient end of the hose or remove the collection bottle cap to allow the gauge to reach a stable vacuum reading.
  • 4. Place the patient tubing in the proper position on the patient and begin sucking sputum.
  • 5. When the sputum reaches the collection bottle's safe full level (800cc), the suctioning will automatically stop (float shut-off).
  • 6. Turn the power switch to "O" (off), then turn off the suction motor.
  • 7. After the motor has stopped completely, remove the sputum from the collection bottle.
  • 8. Turn on the unit and restart the suction unit.
  • 9. Check the gauge's validity if the unit suffers a significant drop.
  • 10. When the liquid in the collection bottle reaches the safe full level, check to see if the float shut-off is still working properly.
  • 11. To avoid damage, always transport the unit with the vacuum adjust knob fully turned clockwise.

Product Cautions

  • 1. When the automatic float shut-off is turned on, the collection bottles should be emptied. Additional suctioning could damage the vacuum pump.
  • 2. If fluid is aspirated back into the unit, take it to an authorized service center for a thorough inspection because the vacuum pump may have been damaged.

How to Clean Collection Bottle

  • 1. Allow the vacuum to drop after turning off the suction unit, then disconnect the AC power source.
  • 2. Remove the collection bottle lid while the collection bottle is still in the holder. The bottle can now be removed from the holder and emptied.
  • 3. After each use, the collection bottle should be emptied.
  • 4. After each use, the collection bottle should be thoroughly cleaned using one of the three methods listed below:
  • 4a. Rinse with clean, hot tap water after washing in a hot water/dishwashing detergent solution. Then wash in a solution of one part vinegar to three parts hot water. Rinse with hot tap water and allow to dry naturally.
  • 4b. Use rubbing alcohol to clean and air dry.
  • 4c. Wash with a commercial (bacterial-germicidal) disinfectant, paying close attention to the disinfectant manufacturer's recommended instructions and dilution rates.

Drive Suction Machine Applications

The Heavy Duty Suction Pump is a vacuum suction device that is intended only for collecting non-flammable fluid materials in medical applications. Inadequate use during medical applications can result in injury or death.

  1. Suctioning should always be done in accordance with the procedures established by a licensed medical authority.
  2. Some attachments and accessories may not be compatible with the supplied tubing. Before using any attachments or accessories, make sure they fit properly.
  3. Use this suction unit in conjunction with a power supply capable of operating on 115 VAC, 60 HZ voltage.
  4. If the overload protector frequently shuts down the motor, you may have a low voltage problem. When the motor does not reach full power or speed, low voltage is suspected.
  5. Other motor-driven appliances fail to function properly — there are too many motor-driven appliances on the same circuit.
  6. This compressor's motor has a thermal overload protector. The overload protector will turn off the motor if it overheats. If this happens, switch the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position and let the motor cool (approximately 5 minutes). Start the compressor again. If the compressor does not start, wait 5 minutes before attempting to restart it. If this doesn't work, check the fuses on your suction unit. If the unit does not restart, contact your medical equipment provider right away.
  7. To avoid physical harm, this product must be used correctly. Incorrect use can result in personal injury and/or tissue damage. Do not use this product unless directed to do so by a doctor or another qualified health care professional.
  8. Familiarize yourself with this unit before using.
  9. Place the unit on the table and press down firmly so that the suction feet hold it securely in place.
  10. Check that the ON/OFF switch is in the OFF position before plugging the power cord into an electrical outlet.
  11. Allow a cold unit to reach room temperature in a heated area before attempting to start it.

Drive Medical Heavy Duty Suction Machine Cleaning & Maintenance

  1. If the waste in the collection bottle is not disposed of in accordance with medical waste disposal regulations, it may cause respiratory infection. Before cleaning the collection bottle, tubing, and handling the wasting unit and/or accessories, operators must wear gloves and medical class masks.
  2. Before each use, inspect the suction tubing and collection bottle for leaks, cracks, and so on.
  3. Try not to open or remove the suction cabinet. Return your suction unit to an authorized service center if service is required. The warranty will be void if the unit is opened or tampered with.

Steps to Clean the Suction Unit and Collection Bottle Lid

  1. Disconnect all external power sources from the suction unit.
  2. Using a clean cloth and any commercial (bacterial-germicidal) disinfectant, wipe down the suction unit housing and collection bottle lid.
  3. To avoid severe damage to the vacuum pump, do not immerse it in water.

Tube Cleaning

  1. Remove the tubing from the unit.
  2. After each use, thoroughly rinse the tubing with hot tap water, followed by a solution of one part vinegar to three parts hot water.
  3. Rinse with hot tap water and allow to dry naturally.
  4. Wipe the outside of the tubing with a clean, damp cloth to keep it clean.

Changing the Bacteria Filter

  1. As needed, replace the bacteria filter. If overflow occurs, replace the filter right away.
  2. Disconnect the filter from the tubing connected to the pressure adjusting valve and the tubing connected to the collection bottle lid assembly.
  3. Replace the bacteria filter with a new one and reconnect the tubing. Additional filters can be purchased from an authorized dealer.
  4. Only use Drive brand filters. This bacteria filter should not be replaced with any other material. Incorrect substitution can result in contamination or poor performance.

Changing the Fuse

  1. Replace the broken fuse with only the same type of fuse.
  2. Miniature Glass Fuse 5x20mm, Fast Blow (Quick Acting), F2A/250V is the fuse specification.
  3. Residues in the collection bottle, tubing, and filter may cause respiratory infection when this unit or its accessories reach the end of their useful lives (depending on usage conditions). Dump the waste collection bottle, tubing, and filter into a medical waste-labeled waste bin.
